Balkar Singh

Born in 1940, Balkar Singh was the first in his family of agriculturists to acquire higher education. Being the eldest son helped him cultivate certain attitudes and qualities which are reflected in his living and writings. Life has been kind to him as most of good things havecome his way without a meticulous planning for them. He started his academic career as lecturer in Divinity & Punjabi at Guru Arjan Dev College, Taran Taran in 1967. After serving for few years via Khalsa College, Patiala, he joined the department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala as senior research fellow and retired from the same department as Professor in 2000. Soon thereafter he joined the Sikh Dharma International USA of Yogi Harbhajan Singh to teach Sikh Religion, History, Punjabi Language and Culture to its western members. A keen observer of Sikh Affairs he was looking after the Panth Rattan Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute of Sikh Studies as its Director. As a Professor of Eminence in the department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies of Punjabi University, his opinions on Sikh affairs are given due difference by the concerned quarters.
