Sino-Indian Ties Under Modi: Rising to the China Challenge
Sino-Indian Ties Under Modi: Rising to the China Challenge
The India-China bilateral is said to be one of the most consequential relationships of the 21st century. This unique dynamic has seen elements of both cooperation and competition. But in the current milieu ties are rather fraught since China under President Xi Jinping has chosen to revive boundary disputes with nations along its periphery, especially India. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has tried to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in June 2020, following which there have been numerous attempts to transgress the border. Despite several rounds of consultations by both militaries, a massive deployment of troops on both sides of the border looms over like a sword of Damocles. The People’s Republic is trying to get a foothold along nations in South Asia on India’s periphery. This title ‘Sino-Indian Ties Under Modi: Rising to the China Challenge’ details the trajectory of India-China relations under the Narendra Modi dispensation from engagement to estrangement over the last decade. It also charts how defence capabilities have been bolstered by the Modi government, and how India’s approach to China has changed with respect to trade, investment, critical minerals, and technology. And lastly, how Delhi is pushing back against Beijing’s influence in South Asia.
