India-South Africa Relations
India-South Africa Relations
₹550 M.R.P ₹599

India and South Africa share a deep-rooted historical and political connection, beginning with the arrival of Indian indentured   labourers in 1860 and Mahatma Gandhi’s transformative role in South African politics. The relationship has since evolved into a multifaceted partnership, marked by shared values of democracy, civil rights, and aspirations for a multipolar world order. Despite strong diplomatic ties, including high-level visits and cooperation in multilateral forums like BRICS, G20, and the WTO, the bilateral relationship remains under-leveraged.
To mark 30 years of formal diplomatic ties in 2024, Samir Bhattacharya from the Observer Research Foundation and Vishal Nirghen from the South African High Commission, curated a volume titled “India-South Africa Relations in a Changing World.” This book explores the historical foundation, assess current engagements, and offer forward-looking recommendations to deepen and diversify the partnership in light of global shifts.
This book is timely and essential as it revisits the deep historical ties between India and South Africa and offers a critical evaluation of their evolving partnership in a shifting global order. It is essential reading for policymakers, scholars, diplomats, and anyone interested in India Africa relations, South-South cooperation and emerging global alliances.
