Sadaaqa: Partnership & Cultural Kinship (Conversations with Pioneering Indians and Kuwaitis)

Sadaaqa: Partnership & Cultural Kinship (Conversations with Pioneering Indians and Kuwaitis)
Sadaaqa: Partnership & Cultural Kinship (Conversations with Pioneering Indians and Kuwaitis) is based on the first two seasons of an audiovisual series that was launched in January 2022. The show documents and celebrates the close and personal ties between India and Kuwait, one story at a time. It also seeks to challenge occasional stereotypes regarding the Indian community’s contributions to Kuwait’s evolution into a vibrant and modern nation.
India and Kuwait share a cultural kinship rooted in mutual inspiration and adaptation, an exchange that permeates various aspects of Kuwaiti society. This influence is visible across both the tangible and intangible dimensions of Kuwaiti culture, manifesting in folkloric music and dance, textiles, cuisine, language, jewellery, and architecture.
This book presents inspiring accounts of pioneering Indian business families, such as the Jashanmals, Oberois, Lambas, Wadhawans, Kohlis, Bhasins, Mathews, Merchants and others, who established businesses, created livelihoods, and became key contributors to Kuwait's economic growth. These are narratives of grit, determination, and resilience, forged at a time when life in Kuwait was far from easy. To these Indians, Kuwait is home away from home.
The book also honours distinguished Kuwaitis who share close and enduring ties to India. Among them is Dr. Lubna Al Qadi, founder and Former Director of the Women’s Research and Study Centre, who grew up in India and whose uncle, Ebrahim Al Qazi, is the father of modern Indian theatre; Sheikha Souad Al Sabah, a connoisseur of Mumbai, who was present with her husband during the tragic 9/11 terror attacks; Sheikha Shaikha Al Sabah, the first Kuwaiti to receive the Padma Shri for her extraordinary role in promoting yoga among the local population. Other notable figures include Mubarak Al Rashed, widely regarded as Kuwait's Kishore Kumar, the Al Arfaj sisters, Sheikha Halah Al Sabah, and the candid Ahmed Al Sarraf, Kuwait’s celebrated columnist. These and many other Kuwaitis exemplify a profound and enduring affection for India.
