Lory Pattanaik writes the way cities breathe slowly, restlessly, and with secrets tucked between heartbeats. If The City that Learns to Breathe feels alive, it’s because Lory listens to streets, to silences, to the quiet resilience people carry inside them.

But don’t try to box her into one genre. She won’t stay there.

Lory drifts effortlessly between literary fiction and speculative musings, romance and realism, poetry and prose that feels almost like a whispered confession. One day she is exploring the fragile architecture of human relationships; the next, she’s bending time, memory, or entire cities to ask, what if? Her stories often live at the intersection of vulnerability and strength where flawed characters stumble, rise, and learn to breathe again.

She writes about women who refuse to shrink, about love that doesn’t always arrive politely, about grief that reshapes skylines, and about hope that flickers stubbornly in the dark. Her voice is intimate but fearless, tender but unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths.

If you’re looking for neat endings and predictable turns, she might surprise you. If you’re looking for something that lingers long after the final page, you’re exactly where you need to be.

Lory Pattanaik doesn’t just tell stories. She builds worlds that inhale, exhale, and remember you.

Er. Lory Pattanaik

Lory Pattanaik doesn’t fit into one box. She never did. She began her career in hard hats and safety shoes inside power plants, standing between turbines, boilers, and blueprints. Yes, a woman in a sector where very few women stayed long enough to see commissioning day. She did. For over seven years. From greenfield chaos to full-scale operations. She didn’t just work there, she earned her place there. But here’s the truth...

Even when she was calculating loads and handling shutdown schedules, she was writing. Observing. Feeling. Storing stories. After completing her Engineering and MBA in HR and IBM, life threw its uncertainties into the post-Satyam era, career shifts, delays, detours. She didn’t collapse. She recalibrated.

In 2009, her first love writing stopped being a side passion and became her voice. Her bylines appeared in publications like The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Dainik Bhaskar, and Shree Prakashan Journal. She was writing because stories needed to be told ...stories of people, resilience and silent revolutions. Today, she is the Co-founder of WebOdoctor Inc., a software and marketing solutions company born from grit, sleepless nights, and belief. Entrepreneurship didn’t arrive with funding decks and applause. It arrived with risk and responsibility.

She has authored 16 books including biographies of changemakers from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh because she believes regional stories deserve national respect.

She has been an engineer. A journalist. An HR strategist. A moderator. An entrepreneur. A wife. A mother. A student of spirituality. None of these roles were planned on a vision board. They were lived.

If there is one pattern in her journey, it is this. She doesn’t abandon ships. She builds them. Even after storms. Her belief is simple and deeply personal: Whatever role life gives you—don’t shrink. Expand. Own it.
