Is This the Time for the Indian Elephant and the Chinese Dragon to Dance Together?
Is This the Time for the Indian Elephant and the Chinese Dragon to Dance Together?
The idea of an Indian elephant and a Chinese dragon tangoing together sounds very interesting and fascinating. Whether they can in real life is a totally different matter. But even if they can’t dance, with some discipline, guidance and nudge from the right quarters, they can stroll together amiably like good friends.
Keeping in mind the benefits of the time tested home truth of not letting differences become disputes and disputes escalating into open conflicts, China and India accounting for roughly one-third of the world’s population can and should manage their relations. They have a lot to contribute to global stability, peace and progress and welfare of humanity to fritter away their energy, resources and time in avoidable contestations.
The mantra of Panchasheel, if embraced, imbibed and followed in letter and spirit can show the path of close, cordial, productive and collaborative relations between the two Asian giants destined to shape the destiny of this century.
This book doesn’t pedal woolly romanticism nor chest-thumping jingoism. The Contributors have presented the prevailing harsh realities on the ground as they are, cautioned about pitfalls and after dispassionate analysis suggested practical steps to take the Sino-Indian relationship forward.
If the book makes readers pause and ponder over what’s happened and think in a forward-looking manner about what can happen if India & China came together, its purpose would have been served.
