The book—apart from dealing with the author's journey from Kashmir Ceramics Kathua to Jammu University—throws light on the author's role in the 1998 Jammu revolt, which brought the Farooq Abdullah Government to Jammu's knees. The book also deals with the author's association with the BJP and the RSS and the nature of relations with them, his role in the political developments and the circumstances leading to the Amarnath Land Movement, which led to the collapse of the Ghulam Nabi Azad Government in July 2008. The book, in addition, deals with very crucial discussions which took place from time to time between the author and some very senior Central Government officials on the issues of Assembly elections in J&K in 1996, pre-1953 politico-constitutional status, the Gujjar-Pahari controversy and the outcome. Besides, it throws light on the author's role, which helped the daughters of J&K obtain full citizenship rights in 2005 and Jammu get Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Agriculture University in 2008, the Central University of Jammu in 2010-11 and AIIMS in 2015. In addition, the book deals with the nature of discussions which took place between the author and an American think-tank, the British High Commissioner and the EU delegation on J&K and what transpired during the track-II type conferences on J&K held at the House of Commons, Hotel Rembrandt, Guild Hall and Kensington, and national and international conferences on J&K at the  India International Centre, JNU and SKICC, Srinagar. The book also deals with the author's role in the Round Table Conferences on J&K's political future and what Kashmiri leaders like Farooq Abdullah did when the author exposed the fake secularists in the establishment at 7-Race Course, the PM's official residence.

Author

Hari Om Hari Om is the former Head of Jammu University’s History Department and former Dean of Jammu University’s Faculty of Social Sciences. He also headed the Maharaja Gulab Singh Chair at the University of Jammu. Besides, he served the Indian Council of Historical Research for six years. He was also Professor of History in the NCERT and co-authored Contemporary India, a textbook for the class IX students.
